The Story

After the arrest, Peter follows afar off into the high priest's house. A maid and others recognize him. Three times he denies, saying he does not know Jesus. While he yet speaks, the cock crows.
The Lord turns and looks upon Peter. Peter remembers the word of the Lord, goes out, and weeps bitterly. The denial is complete, but grief opens the path toward repentance and later restoration.
